EOL TESTER

The goal of this project was to eliminate two manual testing processes on a production line. The development of the End of Line Tester combined both testing processes into one station, eliminated all manual labor previously needed, and supported multiple flavors of the product for testing. The tool was then replicated 9x when it expanded across all applicable production lines on the factory floor.
The scope of my work for this project consisted of the complete mechanical, electrical, and control design for the system.

The EOL tester integrated with the existing production line conveyor, and was controlled by a programmable logic controller (PLC) with a human machine interface (HMI)

A custom designed 3-axis overhead gantry was used for proper positioning. Linear servo motors provided motion along the x & y axis, while pneumatic actuators were used along the z-axis.

A custom designed power distribution unit was used to power the entire system. A separate enclosure was provided to house the PLC, and all digital/analog input & output signals

A custom designed HMI was developed to provide user control and machine status updates. All programming done was through Rslogix and Factorytalk View Machine

Manual user control was provided for all pneumatic actuators, along with current actuator status

Manual control of linear servo motors was provided for necessary homing, manual fault recovery, and initial system setup
